Oregon is a sleeper state for quality turkey hunting and as a resident, that is just fine by me. This year, I make the three hour trek west to hunt- not mountain birds- oak birds. The Rio Grande turkey is plentiful in the Willamette Valley among the lush green fields and mighty Oak and Madrones.
I am in no way shape or form a turkey hunting expert making this years challenge of harvesting a tom turkey on a solo hunt a huge challenge for me which made it a HUGE accomplishment upon my success afield. All of my success in this hunt goes to all of the people that have taken me turkey hunting- teaching me everything that they know about roosting turkeys at night, decoy placement, how and when to call. It is because of all of my awesome hunting partners that I was able to put a tag on my first solo Oregon Rio Grande. And that folks is what its all about. #LeaveALegacy
